Why You'll Love It

• Beautifully patterned foliage featuring green, cream and soft pink tones.

• Striking feather-like markings that give each leaf a hand-painted appearance.

• Naturally bushy growth habit that's perfect for indoor displays.

• A wonderful way to introduce colour and texture without needing flowers.

• Pet-friendly foliage that's suitable for homes with curious cats and dogs.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Goeppertia (Bicajoux cultivar)
• Common Name: Bicajoux Calathea
• Pot Size: 130mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical evergreen foliage plant

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful foliage colours and encourage healthy growth. A position near a window with filtered natural light is ideal, although it can tolerate moderate indirect light.

Avoid harsh direct sunlight, particularly during the afternoon, as this can scorch the delicate leaves and fade their distinctive markings.

Watering

Keep the potting mix lightly and consistently moist, allowing the very top layer to begin drying before watering again. Avoid letting the plant dry out completely, but ensure excess water can drain freely.

Calatheas can be sensitive to minerals in tap water. If you notice persistent brown leaf tips, consider using rainwater or filtered water, particularly if your local water supply is hard.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy foliage and steady growth.

Adjust the frequency according to the plant's growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows. Avoid overfeeding, as Calatheas can be sensitive to excess fertiliser salts.

Growing

The Bicajoux Calathea develops a compact, bushy shape, with new leaves emerging from the base of the plant to gradually create a fuller display.

It enjoys warm, stable indoor temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Keep it away from cold draughts, heaters and air-conditioning vents, as sudden changes in temperature or dry air can affect the foliage.

A moisture-retentive but well-aerated potting mix is ideal, providing the roots with consistent moisture without becoming waterlogged.

Pet Friendly?

Yes! Calatheas, including plants in the Goeppertia genus, are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.

They're a lovely option for pet-friendly households, although it's still best to discourage pets from chewing the foliage.

Good to Know

Calatheas are often called prayer plants because their leaves can change position throughout the day, responding to natural light cycles. You may notice the foliage becoming more upright in the evening before relaxing again during daylight hours.

The Bicajoux Calathea is particularly admired for its colourful, feather-like leaf markings. Pink tones and the intensity of the pattern can vary between individual leaves and may change as new foliage matures.

Occasional brown tips or edges can occur when humidity is low, watering is inconsistent or mineral salts build up in the potting mix. Maintaining stable growing conditions will help keep its foliage looking its best.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
