Product Description

A little lime, a splash of pink and a whole lot of personality! The Charlene Nerve Plant is a cheerful little tropical beauty with fresh, lime-green foliage decorated with delicate, hot pink veins. It's a wonderfully colourful combination that brings an instant lift to any indoor space.

Its small, rounded leaves feature fine pink markings that branch out from the centre, creating a beautifully detailed pattern against the bright green background. Some leaves develop deeper green tones as they mature, adding lovely variation throughout its compact, leafy growth.

Charlene might be petite, but it certainly knows how to make an impression! Perfect for decorative pots, terrariums, desks and shelves, this charming Fittonia is an easy way to introduce a little colour without taking up much room. Give it consistent moisture, a warm position and some humidity, and it'll happily show off its beautiful foliage.

• Beautifully detailed leaf patterns that make every leaf interesting.

• Perfect for terrariums, decorative planters and miniature tropical gardens.
• Pet-friendly and full of colourful personality.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Fittonia albivenis
• Common Name: Charlene Nerve Plant
• Pot Size: 70mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical foliage houseplant

Light

Charlene thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain its vibrant lime-green foliage and contrasting pink veins. A position near an east-facing window or slightly back from a bright window is ideal.

It can tolerate moderate indirect light, although its colouring may become less pronounced and growth may slow. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, particularly during the afternoon, as the delicate leaves can scorch or develop dry, crispy edges.

Watering

Keep the potting mix consistently lightly moist, allowing only the very top layer to begin drying between waterings. Fittonias have fine, relatively shallow root systems and prefer a steady supply of moisture rather than being allowed to dry out completely.

Charlene can be rather dramatic when thirsty! If the soil becomes too dry, its leaves may suddenly droop or wilt. A thorough watering will often help it recover, but repeated wilting can eventually damage the foliage.

Water thoroughly until excess moisture drains from the nursery pot, then allow it to drain freely. Avoid leaving the roots sitting in waterlogged soil.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage and steady growth.

Fittonias are relatively light feeders, so gentle applications are preferable to strong doses. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Growing

Charlene has a naturally compact, spreading growth habit, gradually forming a dense cushion of colourful leaves. As it matures, its stems may gently extend beyond the edges of its pot, creating a lovely soft, leafy appearance.

It prefers a light, moisture-retentive but well-draining potting mix that keeps the roots comfortably moist while allowing good airflow. A quality tropical indoor mix is an excellent choice.

Warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity will help keep its delicate foliage looking its best. Aim for temperatures around 18–27°C and protect it from cold draughts, heaters and air-conditioning vents.

Occasionally pinching back longer stems will encourage fresh branching and help maintain its compact, bushy shape.

Pet Friendly?

Yes! Fittonia albivenis is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making Charlene a lovely addition to pet-friendly households.

As with any houseplant, it's still best to discourage pets from chewing the foliage, as consuming plant material may occasionally cause mild digestive upset.

Good to Know

Charlene is particularly well suited to terrariums, where the naturally higher humidity helps keep its delicate foliage hydrated and healthy. Its small size also makes it a fantastic choice for miniature indoor gardens and mixed tropical arrangements.

Its lime-green colouring and pink vein patterns can vary between individual leaves, with some foliage developing deeper green tones as it matures. Bright, indirect light will help maintain its beautiful contrast.

If the leaves suddenly droop, check the moisture level of the potting mix before watering. While Fittonias are famous for wilting when thirsty, consistently saturated soil can also cause root stress.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.
• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.
• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
