The Details

• Botanical Name: Dieffenbachia seguine 'Tropic Marine'
• Common Name: Tropic Marine Dumb Cane
• Pot Size: 200mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical evergreen perennial

Light

Loves bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant foliage and beautiful variegation. It can tolerate medium light conditions, although growth may slow and colours may become less pronounced. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch those gorgeous leaves.

Watering

Water thoroughly when the top few centimetres of soil begin to dry out. Tropic Marine prefers its potting mix to remain lightly moist but never soggy. Allow excess water to drain freely and reduce watering frequency when the soil is taking longer to dry.

Feeding

Feed regularly throughout the year with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy foliage and steady growth. Adjust the frequency and strength according to the plant's growth rate and the fertiliser instructions.

Growing

Tropic Marine has a naturally upright, bushy growth habit, producing large, beautifully patterned leaves from sturdy stems. Over time, it can develop into an impressive indoor feature plant. It enjoys warm temperatures, moderate to high humidity and a well-draining, moisture-retentive potting mix.

Pet Friendly?

No, unfortunately not! Dieffenbachia contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause significant irritation to the mouth and digestive system if chewed or ingested. Best kept away from curious pets and little ones.

Good to Know

Dieffenbachia is commonly known as Dumb Cane, a name that comes from the irritating sap found throughout the plant. Wearing gloves when pruning or repotting is a good idea, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

Its beautiful variegation means every leaf can look a little different, with some showing more creamy white and others displaying stronger lime green tones. That's all part of its charm!
