The Details

• Botanical Name: Dracaena fragrans ‘Massangeana’
• Common Name: Happy Plant, Corn Plant
• Pot Size: 250mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical Evergreen / Indoor Foliage Plant

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant leaf markings but can tolerate moderate to lower light conditions. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the foliage. Growth will generally be slower in darker positions.

Watering

Allow the top third to half of the potting mix to dry before watering thoroughly. Happy Plants prefer to dry out slightly between drinks rather than sit in constantly damp soil. Reduce watering during the cooler months and always allow excess water to drain away.

Feeding

Feed with a balanced liquid indoor plant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Continue feeding lightly through autumn and winter if the plant is actively growing, adjusting the frequency to suit its needs.

Growing

A slow to moderately growing plant that develops sturdy, woody canes topped with clusters of long, arching leaves. Indoors, it can eventually reach 2 metres or more with suitable conditions.

Plant into a well-draining potting mix, such as our Minty Greenhouse Core Indoor Mix, and keep away from cold draughts. Rotate occasionally to encourage even growth.

Pet Friendly?

No. Dracaena fragrans is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested and may cause vomiting, drooling and digestive upset. Keep out of reach of curious pets.

Good to Know

Happy Plants are particularly sensitive to excess fluoride and mineral salts, which can contribute to brown leaf tips. Rainwater or filtered water may help if this becomes a recurring issue.

It's also completely normal for older, lower leaves to gradually yellow and drop as the plant matures, revealing more of its distinctive woody stems.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.
• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.
• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
