Product Description

A little touch of winter wonderland, without the chilly temperatures! The Snow Nerve Plant is a gorgeous little tropical beauty with beautifully patterned foliage that brings a fresh, crisp look to any indoor plant collection.

Featuring small, elongated leaves in a rich forest green, Snow is decorated with intricate creamy-white veins that spread out from the centre of each leaf. The bright markings create a delicate, almost snowflake-like pattern, while the darker green margins provide a striking contrast. Its dense, leafy growth gives this miniature houseplant a wonderfully lush appearance.

Perfect for terrariums, small decorative pots and those little spots that need something special, Snow is a fantastic choice for anyone who loves interesting foliage. Give it a warm, humid home and a little attention to watering, and it'll reward you with plenty of beautiful new growth.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Fittonia albivenis
• Common Name: Snow Nerve Plant
• Pot Size: 70mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical foliage houseplant

Light

Snow Nerve Plant thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain its striking creamy-white markings and healthy, compact growth.

An east-facing window with gentle morning sunlight is ideal, or position it a little further back from a bright north-facing window where the light is filtered.

It can tolerate moderate indirect light, although growth may become slower and less compact in darker conditions.

Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, particularly during the warmer parts of the day, as the delicate leaves can scorch or develop dry, crispy patches.

Watering

Snow enjoys consistently lightly moist potting mix and doesn't appreciate being allowed to dry out completely.

Water thoroughly when the top centimetre or so of the mix begins to feel dry, allowing any excess water to drain away freely.

Like other Fittonias, Snow can be quite dramatic when it's thirsty! Its leaves may suddenly droop or wilt if the potting mix becomes too dry. A good watering will often help it recover quickly, provided it hasn't been left dehydrated for an extended period.

During spring and summer, check the potting mix regularly, as warmer conditions and active growth can increase watering requirements.

In the cooler months, reduce watering frequency slightly while continuing to maintain gentle, consistent moisture around the roots.

Avoid leaving the pot sitting in water or keeping the mix constantly saturated, as this can lead to root rot.

Feeding

Feed year-round using a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to approximately half the recommended strength.

During spring and summer, fertilise every three to four weeks to encourage healthy foliage development and support its naturally compact, bushy growth.

In autumn and winter, reduce feeding to approximately every six to eight weeks, depending on the plant's growth rate and indoor conditions.

Snow is a relatively light feeder, so gentle, regular applications are preferable to strong doses of fertiliser.

Growing

Snow Nerve Plant is a low-growing tropical perennial prized for its intricate foliage patterns and compact, spreading habit.

Its small, oval to elongated leaves feature a deep green background with prominent creamy-white veins that branch out towards the edges. The contrasting colours create a beautifully detailed appearance, while fresh growth gradually fills out the plant into a dense, leafy mound.

As it matures, its stems may begin to spread and gently trail over the edges of its pot, making it a lovely option for small planters, terrarium arrangements and miniature indoor gardens.

Snow prefers warm temperatures between approximately 18–27°C and thrives in moderate to high humidity. Keep it away from cold draughts, sudden temperature changes and direct airflow from heating or air-conditioning.

For best results, grow it in a moisture-retentive but well-draining tropical potting mix. A combination of quality potting mix, coco coir and perlite provides a good balance of moisture retention and root aeration.

If stems become too long or leggy, gently pinch back the growing tips to encourage branching and maintain a fuller appearance. Healthy stem cuttings can also be propagated to create additional plants.

Pet Friendly?

Yes! Snow Nerve Plant is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a lovely addition to pet-friendly households.

Although it's not known to contain toxic compounds harmful to pets, it's still best to discourage chewing, as consuming plant material may occasionally cause mild digestive upset.

Good to Know

Snow's creamy-white markings are a natural characteristic of its foliage, with the pattern and intensity varying slightly from leaf to leaf. Some leaves may feature broader white markings, while others display finer veins against a deeper green background.

This variety is particularly well suited to terrariums, where the increased humidity and relatively stable growing conditions can help maintain healthy foliage.

If growing Snow in an enclosed terrarium, monitor moisture levels carefully and avoid allowing the substrate to remain saturated. Humidity is beneficial, but the roots still need adequate aeration.

Regularly pinching back longer stems can help maintain its compact, bushy appearance and encourage plenty of fresh growth.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.
• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.
• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
