Product Description

A little romance, a lot of tropical charm! Meet the Flamingo Flower, a gorgeous indoor beauty with lush, glossy green foliage and vibrant red blooms that really know how to steal the show. With its beautiful heart-shaped leaves and striking flowers, Anthurium andraeanum is the perfect combination of leafy goodness and long-lasting colour. Who needs a bunch of flowers when you can have a plant that keeps on giving?

Those glossy, bright red blooms are actually something pretty clever! The colourful, heart-shaped section is called a spathe, while the little yellow spike in the centre, known as the spadix, holds the plant's tiny true flowers. Together, they create that unmistakable Anthurium look. Paired with its lush green foliage, it's a gorgeous tropical combination that adds warmth and personality to any indoor space.

And in this lovely 125mm size, the Flamingo Flower is perfect for brightening up a desk, side table, shelf or windowsill. It's also a wonderful living gift for someone who loves a little colour amongst their greenery. Give it plenty of filtered light, warmth and a little attention to its watering needs, and this tropical beauty can reward you with beautiful blooms throughout the year!

Why You'll Love It
  • Beautiful glossy red, heart-shaped spathes that bring a vibrant splash of colour
  • Lush green foliage that looks gorgeous even between flowering periods
  • Long-lasting blooms that can remain attractive for several weeks
  • A lovely compact size that's perfect for desks, shelves and decorative planters
  • Can flower repeatedly throughout the year when grown in suitable conditions

The Details

• Botanical Name: Anthurium andraeanum
• Common Name: Flamingo Flower, Flamingo Lily
• Pot Size: 125mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical Flowering Aroid

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to encourage healthy foliage and regular flowering. Can tolerate moderate light, although flowering may become less frequent. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch its glossy leaves and colourful spathes. A bright position near a window with filtered light is ideal.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of potting mix to begin drying between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain away, and avoid leaving the pot sitting in water. Anthuriums appreciate consistent moisture but don't enjoy constantly soggy roots.

If the potting mix becomes excessively dry, leaves may begin to droop or develop brown edges. Maintaining a regular watering routine will help keep the foliage looking lush and healthy.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy foliage and encourage repeat flowering. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid overfertilising, as excess salts can accumulate in the potting mix and cause browning leaf tips or damage to the roots.

Growing

Prefers a loose, chunky, well-draining aroid potting mix that allows plenty of airflow around its roots while retaining a little moisture. As a tropical plant with naturally epiphytic tendencies, it appreciates an airy growing medium rather than dense, compacted soil.

Enjoys warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity, although established plants can adapt to typical indoor conditions. Keep away from cold draughts, heaters and sudden temperature changes.

Remove spent blooms and ageing leaves with clean, sharp snips to encourage a tidy appearance and allow the plant to direct energy towards fresh growth.

Pet Friendly?

No. Anthurium andraeanum contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed or ingested. Keep away from curious pets and little hands.

Good to Know

Here's a little botanical fun fact! Those beautiful red 'flowers' aren't actually flowers at all. They're modified leaves called spathes, while the tiny true flowers grow along the central spadix. The colourful spathes can remain attractive for several weeks, gradually changing colour as they age.

Unlike some flowering houseplants that have one main blooming season, Anthuriums can produce flowers at different times throughout the year when conditions are favourable. Plenty of indirect light, consistent warmth and appropriate feeding will help encourage repeat flowering.

Don't be surprised if the red spathes develop subtle green or darker tones as they mature. This is a natural part of the flowering cycle and adds to the unique character of each bloom.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
