Product Description

Turn up the colour with Forest Flame! This fiery little Fittonia certainly lives up to its name, showing off an incredible combination of hot pink, crimson and deep forest green. With foliage this vibrant, who needs flowers?

Its small, oval-shaped leaves feature brilliant pink centres with intricate branching patterns that extend towards rich, dark green edges. The contrast is spectacular, creating a striking mosaic of colour across its dense, leafy growth. Each leaf has its own slightly different pattern, giving this little tropical beauty plenty of personality.

Pop it into a decorative planter, add it to a terrarium or let it brighten up a desk or shelf. It's a fantastic choice for anyone who loves unusual foliage without needing a large plant to make an impression.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Fittonia albivenis
• Common Name: Forest Flame Nerve Plant
• Pot Size: 70mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical foliage houseplant

Light

Forest Flame thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain its intense pink colouring and beautifully contrasting foliage. A position near an east-facing window or slightly back from a bright window is ideal.

It can tolerate moderate indirect light, although the foliage may become less vibrant and growth may slow. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, particularly during the afternoon, as its delicate leaves can scorch or develop dry, damaged edges.

Watering

Keep the potting mix consistently lightly moist, allowing only the very surface to begin drying between waterings. Fittonias have fine, shallow root systems and appreciate a regular supply of moisture without sitting in saturated soil.

These little plants are famously dramatic when they're thirsty! If the potting mix becomes too dry, Forest Flame may suddenly wilt and look rather unhappy. Fortunately, it will often perk up again after a thorough watering, although repeated wilting can eventually damage the foliage.

Water thoroughly until excess water drains from the nursery pot, then allow it to drain freely. Consistent moisture is important, but good drainage is equally essential for healthy roots.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy foliage and encourage fresh, colourful growth.

Fittonias are relatively light feeders, so gentle, regular applications are preferable to strong doses. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Growing

Forest Flame has a naturally low-growing, spreading habit, gradually developing into a dense cushion of colourful foliage. As it matures, its stems may gently extend beyond the edges of the pot, creating a lovely soft, leafy appearance.

It prefers a light, moisture-retentive but well-draining potting mix that provides consistent moisture while allowing plenty of air around the roots. A quality tropical indoor mix is ideal.

Warmth and humidity are particularly important for keeping its delicate foliage looking its best. Forest Flame thrives in temperatures between 18–27°C and appreciates moderate to high humidity, making it an excellent choice for terrariums and enclosed tropical displays.

Protect it from cold draughts, heaters and air-conditioning vents, which can cause unnecessary stress and dry out its foliage. Occasionally pinching back longer stems will encourage bushier growth and help maintain its compact shape.

Pet Friendly?

Yes! Fittonia albivenis is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making Forest Flame a lovely choice for pet-friendly households.

As with any houseplant, it's still best to discourage pets from chewing the foliage, as consuming plant material can occasionally cause mild digestive upset.

Good to Know

Forest Flame is particularly well suited to terrarium growing, where naturally higher humidity helps prevent the delicate leaves from drying out. Its compact growth habit also makes it ideal for miniature tropical gardens and mixed indoor plant displays.

The intensity of its pink and crimson colouring can vary slightly between individual leaves and may change depending on light levels and growing conditions. Providing bright, indirect light will help maintain its striking appearance.

If the plant begins to wilt, check the moisture level of the potting mix before watering. Although Fittonias are known for their dramatic response to dry soil, wilting can also occur when roots are stressed by excessive moisture.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
