Product Description

A little sunshine, a little tropical charm and a whole lot of personality! The Lisa Wax Plant is a gorgeous variegated Hoya that brings a beautiful splash of colour to your indoor plant collection. With its thick, glossy leaves featuring a delightful mix of deep green, lime and golden-yellow tones, this climbing beauty is anything but ordinary.

Each leaf has its own unique pattern, with splashes of colour creating a wonderfully marbled appearance. New growth can emerge in gorgeous shades of pink, peach and reddish bronze before gradually developing its signature variegation. As the plant matures, its long, flexible vines can be encouraged to climb a trellis or left to trail naturally from a shelf or hanging planter.

And there's more to love! Under the right conditions, mature plants can produce clusters of delicate, star-shaped flowers with a lovely sweet fragrance. With its relatively easy-going nature and impressive foliage, Lisa is a fantastic addition for Hoya collectors and anyone looking to bring a little extra colour into their home.

Why You'll Love It

• Beautifully variegated foliage in shades of green, lime and golden yellow.
• Colourful new growth that can emerge in soft pink and reddish tones.
• Versatile climbing or trailing habit that's perfect for creative styling.
• Thick, waxy leaves that make it relatively drought tolerant.
• Potential to produce clusters of sweetly fragrant, star-shaped flowers.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Hoya australis 'Lisa'
• Common Name: Lisa Wax Plant
• Pot Size: 100mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Evergreen tropical climbing vine

Light

Lisa thrives in bright, indirect light, which is particularly important for maintaining its beautiful variegation. A position near an east-facing window or slightly back from a bright north-facing window is generally ideal.

It can tolerate gentle morning sunlight, and a little direct sun may encourage stronger colouring in its new growth. However, prolonged exposure to harsh afternoon sunlight can scorch the leaves, particularly the lighter variegated sections.

Although it can adapt to medium indirect light, growth may become slower and the foliage may develop more green colouring. For the best results, provide plenty of bright, filtered light throughout the day.

Watering

Allow the upper half of the potting mix to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly until excess moisture drains from the bottom of the nursery pot.

Like many Hoyas, Lisa stores moisture in its thick, fleshy leaves and prefers a little drying time between drinks. While it can tolerate occasional periods of dryness, allowing the mix to remain completely dry for extended periods may cause unnecessary stress.

During warmer weather and active growth, check the soil more frequently. In cooler conditions, watering requirements will naturally decrease as the potting mix takes longer to dry.

Avoid leaving the plant sitting in water, as consistently wet conditions can lead to root rot.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage, strong vine development and potential flowering.

Hoyas generally respond well to light, regular feeding rather than heavy applications. Adjust the frequency according to the plant's growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid overfertilising, as excessive nutrient concentrations can damage the roots and lead to unwanted salt accumulation in the potting mix.

Growing

Lisa is a climbing, evergreen Hoya that naturally produces long, flexible vines. As it matures, these can be trained around a trellis, hoop or other support, or allowed to cascade from a hanging planter.

It prefers a chunky, free-draining potting mix that provides plenty of airflow around the roots. An aroid and orchid-style mix containing ingredients such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite and pumice is an excellent choice.

Warm temperatures and moderate to higher humidity encourage healthy growth, although established plants generally adapt well to normal indoor humidity. Keep it protected from cold draughts, frost and sudden temperature changes.

With maturity and suitable growing conditions, Lisa may produce clusters of fragrant flowers. Avoid removing old flower spurs after blooming, as Hoyas can produce new flowers from the same points in future flowering cycles.

Pet Friendly?

Yes! Hoya australis 'Lisa' is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a lovely option for households with pets.

Although it's considered pet friendly, it's still best to discourage chewing, as consuming large amounts of any plant material may cause mild digestive upset.

Good to Know

The beautiful variegation of Lisa means no two plants will look exactly alike. Some leaves may feature large golden-yellow sections, while others display more subtle splashes of lime and green. New growth can also develop with pink or reddish colouring before changing as the leaves mature.

Variegated Hoyas generally grow a little more slowly than their fully green counterparts, so patience is part of the experience. Providing consistent bright, indirect light will help maintain healthy growth and attractive colouring.

Hoyas also prefer to be relatively snug in their pots, so there's no need to rush into repotting. When the time comes, choose a container only slightly larger than the existing root system to avoid excess moisture retention.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.
• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.
• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
