Small in size, big on charm! Petite Blarney is a miniature African Violet with beautifully ruffled foliage and delicate flowers that make it a delightful addition to any indoor plant collection.

Its dense rosette of deep green, velvety leaves features softly curled edges and splashes of lighter green variegation, creating plenty of interest even when it's not flowering. When in bloom, clusters of dainty, double to semi-double flowers appear in soft shades of creamy white, pale pink and green, adding a lovely contrast to the richly coloured foliage.

Perfect for windowsills, desks, shelves and smaller indoor spaces, this compact beauty is a wonderful choice for collectors and anyone who appreciates plants with a little extra personality. With the right care, it can reward you with beautiful blooms throughout the year.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Streptocarpus sect. Saintpaulia 'Petite Blarney'
• Common Name: Petite Blarney African Violet
• Pot Size: 70mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Miniature tropical flowering houseplant

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to encourage healthy foliage and consistent flowering. A position near an east-facing window with gentle morning sunlight is ideal, although filtered light from a brighter window also works beautifully.

Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves. While African Violets tolerate moderate indirect light, insufficient brightness may result in slower growth and fewer flowers.

Watering

Keep the potting mix lightly and evenly moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. Let the surface begin drying slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess moisture to drain away.

Bottom watering is a great option for African Violets. Place the nursery pot in a shallow dish of room-temperature water for approximately 10–15 minutes, allowing moisture to absorb through the drainage holes before removing it.

Avoid leaving water sitting in the central crown or on the foliage, particularly in cooler conditions, as this can encourage spotting and rot.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser or one specifically formulated for African Violets to support healthy foliage and regular flowering.

These plants respond well to gentle, consistent feeding rather than occasional strong applications. Adjust the frequency according to their growth rate, reducing feeding during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Growing

Petite Blarney develops a compact rosette of soft, textured foliage, remaining considerably smaller than standard African Violet varieties.

It prefers a light, airy, moisture-retentive potting mix with excellent drainage. An African Violet-specific mix or a suitable blend containing fine organic material and perlite will provide a good balance of moisture and aeration.

Keep the plant in a warm, stable indoor environment, ideally between 18–26°C, away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Moderate humidity is beneficial, provided there is adequate airflow.

African Violets generally prefer being slightly snug in their pots, so avoid repotting into an oversized container. Remove spent flowers and damaged leaves as needed to maintain tidy growth and encourage fresh blooms.

Pet Friendly?

Yes! African Violets are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making Petite Blarney a lovely choice for pet-friendly indoor plant collections.

As with any houseplant, it's still best to discourage pets from chewing the foliage or flowers, as consuming plant material may occasionally cause mild digestive upset.

Good to Know

Petite Blarney's delicate flowers can display subtle variations in their creamy white, pink and green colouring depending on growing conditions and the individual bloom.

Young plants may take time to establish before flowering, but with sufficient light, consistent moisture and gentle feeding, they can produce blooms repeatedly throughout the year.

Please note: The plant photographed is currently displaying its foliage and is not in flower. The flowering image on the plant label is provided as a reference for the variety's expected blooms. Flowering cannot be guaranteed at the time of purchase.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
