Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful lime and golden-yellow variegation. A position near a bright window with filtered sunlight is ideal, providing enough light to encourage healthy growth and vibrant leaf colouring.

Can tolerate moderate light, although growth may slow and new leaves may become predominantly green as the plant produces more chlorophyll. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh, direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of potting mix to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain freely from the hanging basket before returning it to its usual position.

Brasil Heartleaf prefers a little drying time between drinks rather than constantly wet roots. Its leaves may begin to droop slightly when thirsty, although it's best not to rely on this as your only watering indicator.

During cooler periods or when growth slows, the potting mix will generally take longer to dry, so adjust your watering accordingly.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage, vibrant colouring and steady growth. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid overfertilising, as excess fertiliser salts can build up in the potting mix and cause browning leaf tips or root damage.

Growing

A naturally climbing and trailing tropical plant, Brasil Heartleaf produces long, flexible vines that can cascade beautifully from hanging baskets or be trained to grow upwards on a moss pole or other support.

Prefers a loose, well-draining potting mix that provides a balance of moisture retention and airflow around the roots. A quality indoor potting mix amended with orchid bark, perlite or other free-draining materials works beautifully.

Enjoys warm temperatures and moderate humidity but is generally adaptable to typical indoor environments. Avoid cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.

For a fuller, bushier appearance, occasionally trim back longer vines just above a leaf node. Healthy stem cuttings can also be propagated in water or a suitable propagation mix and replanted into the basket to encourage a denser display.

Pet Friendly?

No. Philodendron hederaceum 'Brasil' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed or ingested. Keep its trailing vines out of reach of curious pets and little hands.
