Each leaf has its own unique pattern, with some showing bright streaks of lime through the centre and others featuring a beautiful mix of lighter and darker greens. Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful variegation and encourage strong, healthy growth. While it can tolerate medium light conditions, the vibrant lime and yellow markings may become less pronounced if the plant isn't receiving enough light.

Avoid harsh afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Gentle morning sun is generally well tolerated, particularly when the plant has been gradually accustomed to it.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of potting mix to dry out before watering thoroughly. Brasil Philodendrons enjoy a little drying time between drinks and generally prefer being slightly on the dry side rather than sitting in constantly wet soil.

Water until excess moisture drains from the bottom of the nursery pot, then allow it to drain completely. Adjust your watering frequency according to the temperature, available light and how quickly the potting mix dries.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage, vibrant colour and steady growth. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid overfeeding, as excessive fertiliser can lead to salt build-up and damage the roots or foliage.

Growing

Naturally a climbing tropical vine, the Brasil Heartleaf Philodendron loves having something to attach itself to. This plant is already established around a central totem, giving its vines a structure to climb as they continue growing.

For the best results, grow in a well-draining, airy aroid potting mix that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged. Warm temperatures and moderate humidity will encourage healthy growth, although this Philodendron is generally quite adaptable to typical indoor conditions.

As the vines mature and develop aerial roots, they can attach themselves to a suitable support. A moist moss pole can encourage stronger climbing growth and potentially larger leaves over time. Guide any wandering stems back towards the support to maintain its upright appearance.

Pet Friendly?

Unfortunately, no. Like other Philodendrons, the Brasil Heartleaf contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed or ingested. Keep this one away from curious pets and little hands.

Good to Know

One of the most beautiful features of the Brasil Philodendron is its naturally variable foliage. Some leaves may emerge almost entirely lime green, while others develop broad yellow-green stripes or smaller splashes of colour against darker green backgrounds.

Occasional predominantly green leaves are normal, but if entire vines consistently produce plain green foliage, they can be trimmed back to encourage growth from more strongly variegated sections.

Although it's often grown as a trailing plant, encouraging your Brasil to climb is a lovely way to enjoy its natural growth habit. With good light, suitable support and a little patience, it can develop into an impressive tropical feature.
