Product Description

Big leaves, bold personality and a whole lot of tropical charm! Meet Hope, the Philodendron that's here to make a statement. With its enormous, deeply lobed leaves, beautifully wavy edges and rich green colouring, this lush beauty brings an instant jungle feel to any space.

As you can see, this one's already putting on quite the show! Its dramatic foliage stretches out in all directions, creating a gorgeous, architectural shape that's perfect for filling an empty corner, adding height to a plant collection or becoming the centrepiece of a room.

Despite its impressive appearance, Hope is surprisingly easygoing. Give it plenty of bright, indirect light, a little room to spread out and some regular care, and it'll reward you with fresh new growth and increasingly impressive foliage.

Why You'll Love It

• Huge, deeply lobed green leaves with beautifully wavy edges
• Bold, architectural growth that makes an instant statement
• Creates a lush, tropical atmosphere in any room
• Relatively easy to care for once established
• A fantastic choice for larger spaces and statement plant styling

The Details

• Botanical Name: Philodendron selloum (Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum)
• Common Name: Hope
• Pot Size: 200mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical evergreen foliage plant

Light

Hope thrives in bright, indirect light, where it can produce strong growth and beautifully developed foliage. Position it near a bright window with filtered sunlight, or somewhere that receives gentle morning sun.

It can tolerate moderate light, although growth may slow and new leaves may be smaller. Avoid suddenly exposing indoor-grown foliage to harsh afternoon sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.

Watering

Water thoroughly when the top few centimetres of potting mix have dried out, allowing excess water to drain freely from the nursery pot. Hope appreciates consistent moisture during active growth but doesn't enjoy sitting in soggy soil.

During the warmer months, check the soil regularly, as larger plants can use a surprising amount of water. Reduce watering during cooler periods, always checking the soil rather than following a strict schedule.

Feeding

Feed throughout the year with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy foliage and steady growth. During spring and summer, fertilise more regularly while the plant is actively producing new leaves.

In autumn and winter, reduce the frequency and strength of feeding to match slower growth. Avoid applying strong fertiliser to completely dry soil.

Growing

Hope develops into a large, spreading plant with impressive, deeply divided leaves supported by sturdy stems. Over time, it can form a thick, trunk-like base, giving mature specimens an even more sculptural appearance.

Plant into a rich, well-draining potting mix that holds some moisture while allowing plenty of air around the roots. It enjoys warmth, moderate to higher humidity and good airflow, although it generally adapts well to typical indoor conditions.

Allow plenty of room for its foliage to spread. Remove older or damaged leaves close to the base as needed, and rotate the pot occasionally to encourage balanced growth.

Pet Friendly?

No, Hope is not considered pet friendly. Like other members of the aroid family, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation to the mouth, tongue and digestive system if chewed or swallowed.

Keep out of reach of curious cats, dogs and children.

Good to Know

• Hope is often sold under the botanical name Philodendron selloum, although its currently accepted name is Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum.
• Mature plants can become quite large, so choose a position with enough space for their broad, spreading foliage.
• New leaves often emerge a lighter, brighter green before gradually deepening in colour as they mature.
• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.
• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.
• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
