Product Description

We've struck gold! Meet the Gold Rush Philodendron, a seriously sunny little character with brilliant golden-yellow foliage that's guaranteed to brighten up your indoor jungle. With its glossy, elongated leaves in gorgeous shades of lime, chartreuse and vibrant gold, this tropical beauty brings a whole lot of colour without needing a single flower. Who knew greenery could be quite so golden?

Unlike its climbing and trailing Philodendron relatives, 'Gold Rush' has a naturally compact, self-heading growth habit, producing beautiful new leaves from the centre of the plant. Its broad, slightly pointed foliage creates a lush, layered appearance, while the varying shades of yellow and green give it a lovely sense of depth. Perfect for brightening up a shelf, styling a side table or adding a splash of sunshine amongst your darker green plants.

And there's more good news! This golden beauty is relatively easy to care for, making it a fantastic choice for both new plant parents and experienced collectors. Give it plenty of bright, indirect light, a well-draining potting mix and a little room to grow, and it'll reward you with gorgeous new foliage. A little tropical sunshine, all year round!

Why You'll Love It
  • Brilliant golden-yellow and lime-green foliage that brings instant colour to your space
  • Beautiful glossy, elongated leaves with subtle variations in colour
  • Naturally compact, self-heading growth that's perfect for shelves and decorative planters
  • A relatively easy-care Philodendron that's great for beginners and experienced collectors
  • A gorgeous contrast plant for styling alongside darker green indoor foliage

The Details

• Botanical Name: Philodendron 'Gold Rush'
• Common Name: Gold Rush Philodendron
• Pot Size: 130mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical Evergreen Aroid

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful golden-yellow colouring and encourage healthy, compact growth. Can tolerate moderate light, although growth may slow and new leaves may develop greener tones.

Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the lighter foliage. Gentle morning sunlight is generally well tolerated, and a bright position near a window with filtered light is ideal.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of potting mix to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain freely from the nursery pot, and avoid leaving the plant sitting in water.

Philodendrons appreciate consistent moisture but don't enjoy constantly soggy roots. Prolonged dryness can cause drooping or browning leaf edges, while overwatering may lead to yellowing foliage and root problems. Checking the potting mix before watering is always the best approach.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage and steady growth. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid overfertilising, as excess fertiliser salts can accumulate in the potting mix and cause browning leaf tips or damage to the roots.

Growing

Prefers a loose, chunky, well-draining aroid potting mix that allows plenty of airflow around its roots while retaining a little moisture. A blend containing orchid bark, coco coir and other free-draining materials is ideal.

Enjoys warm temperatures and moderate humidity, although established plants generally adapt well to typical indoor conditions. Keep away from cold draughts, heaters and sudden temperature changes.

Unlike climbing Philodendrons, 'Gold Rush' has a self-heading growth habit, meaning its leaves emerge from a central growing point rather than developing long trailing vines. As it matures, it will gradually form a fuller, more substantial plant without needing a moss pole or climbing support.

Pet Friendly?

No. Philodendron 'Gold Rush' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed or ingested. Keep away from curious pets and little hands.

Good to Know

That incredible golden-yellow colouring is completely natural! Unlike variegated plants that display distinct patches of different colours, Gold Rush is grown for its beautifully bright foliage, which can vary from vibrant yellow and chartreuse to soft lime-green depending on leaf maturity and growing conditions.

New leaves may emerge in particularly bright shades before gradually developing slightly deeper tones as they mature. Providing plenty of bright, indirect light will help maintain its characteristic golden appearance.

As a self-heading Philodendron, this plant doesn't need to climb to develop its beautiful foliage. Simply give it a bright spot, a suitable potting mix and a little room to spread, and enjoy watching those gorgeous golden leaves unfurl!

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
