Meet one of the more architectural members of the Rhipsalis family. Rhipsalis pentaptera, also known as the Mistletoe Cactus, features long, flattened, segmented stems that create a striking cascading display as the plant matures.

Unlike traditional desert cacti, this tropical species naturally grows high in the branches of rainforest trees, making it perfectly suited to life indoors in bright, indirect light. Collection No. 22 is an eye-catching choice for hanging baskets, plant shelves or anywhere you want to add a little lush greenery without demanding care.

With the right conditions, mature plants may produce delicate white flowers during spring, followed by small ornamental berries later in the season.

Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Outdoors, position in around 50% shade. Too much direct sun can cause the stems to redden and become smaller, while heavy shade may reduce flowering.

Watering
Keep the potting mix lightly moist throughout spring and summer while actively growing. Reduce watering during winter, allowing the mix to dry slightly between waterings to encourage flowering and seasonal dormancy.

Feeding
Feed with a quality liquid fertiliser or slow-release fertiliser during spring and summer when fresh growth begins.

Growing
Unlike traditional desert cacti, Rhipsalis naturally grows attached to trees in moist forests. It enjoys a free-draining potting mix, regular moisture during the growing season and good airflow. If the stems become too long or untidy, simply trim them back to encourage fresh new growth.

Pet Friendly?
Yes. Rhipsalis are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, although it's always best to discourage pets from chewing on any houseplant.
