Light

Prefers medium to bright, indirect light, where its beautiful pink colouring can be enjoyed without exposing the leaves to harsh sunlight.

Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the foliage and cause its vibrant colours to fade. While it can tolerate moderately lower light conditions, insufficient light may result in slower growth and less pronounced colouring.

Watering

Keep the growing medium consistently lightly moist, allowing the upper 1–2cm to begin drying before watering again.

Rosey Calatheas are sensitive to prolonged dryness but also dislike waterlogged roots. Water thoroughly, allow excess moisture to drain away and adjust your watering frequency according to the plant's growing conditions.

Where possible, use rainwater, filtered water or another low-mineral water source, as Calatheas can be sensitive to mineral and salt build-up.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy foliage and steady growth.

Adjust the frequency according to the plant's growth rate, reducing applications during cooler periods when growth naturally slows. Avoid overfeeding, as excess fertiliser salts can contribute to leaf damage.

Growing

Rosey Calatheas thrive in warm, humid environments with relatively stable temperatures. Moderate to high humidity is particularly beneficial for maintaining healthy foliage and reducing the likelihood of dry, crispy leaf edges.

Grow in a moisture-retentive but well-aerated tropical potting mix that allows the roots to breathe while holding sufficient moisture between waterings.

This naturally clumping plant produces new leaves from its base, gradually developing a fuller appearance as it matures. Keep it away from cold draughts, heaters and air-conditioning vents that can create sudden changes in temperature or humidity.

Pet Friendly?

Yes! Rosey Calatheas are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making them a lovely option for pet-friendly households.

Although non-toxic, it's still best to discourage pets from chewing the foliage to prevent damage to both the plant and curious little mouths.

Good to Know

Like other members of the prayer plant family, the Rosey Calathea displays natural leaf movement throughout the day. Its leaves may gently lift or change position in response to changing light conditions, a fascinating behaviour known as nyctinasty.

The intensity of its pink colouring can vary between individual leaves and may change as the foliage matures. New growth can emerge in slightly different shades before developing its characteristic appearance.

Occasional brown leaf edges can occur when humidity is too low, watering becomes inconsistent or the plant is exposed to excess minerals. Maintaining stable growing conditions will help keep its foliage looking its best.
