The Details

• Botanical Name: Syngonium podophyllum 'Roxanna'
• Common Name: Roxanna Arrowhead Vine
• Pot Size: 70mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical evergreen climbing foliage plant

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful foliage colouring and encourage healthy, compact growth. A position near a bright window with filtered sunlight is ideal.

It can tolerate moderate indirect light, although growth may become slower and the lighter foliage tones may be less pronounced. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, particularly during the hottest parts of the day, as the delicate leaves can scorch.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of the potting mix to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Roxanna prefers a lightly moist growing environment but doesn't enjoy sitting in constantly saturated soil.

Check the moisture regularly, particularly while the plant is growing in its smaller 70mm nursery pot, as smaller pots can dry out relatively quickly. Reduce watering frequency during cooler periods when the potting mix takes longer to dry, and always allow excess water to drain away.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage and steady growth.

Adjust feeding frequency according to the plant's growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows. Regular, gentle feeding can help support fresh foliage and strong development without overwhelming the roots.

Growing

Roxanna begins with a compact, bushy appearance, producing attractive arrow-shaped leaves on slender stems. As it matures, it can develop a more pronounced climbing or trailing growth habit, making it suitable for hanging displays, shelves or a small support.

It enjoys warm indoor temperatures, moderate to higher humidity and a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture while allowing good airflow around the roots.

For a fuller, more compact appearance, trim back longer stems as needed to encourage branching. Alternatively, provide a small climbing support and allow the plant to develop naturally as it grows.

Avoid cold draughts and sudden temperature changes, particularly during Melbourne's cooler months.

Pet Friendly?

No. Syngonium podophyllum contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is considered toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or ingested.

Keep this plant out of reach of curious pets, as chewing the foliage can cause irritation to the mouth, tongue and digestive system.

Good to Know

Roxanna's foliage can display subtle variations in colour depending on leaf maturity, lighting and growing conditions. New leaves may emerge in lighter shades of green, sometimes with delicate pinkish tones, before developing their mature colouring.

Like other Syngoniums, its leaf shape and growth habit can gradually change as the plant matures. Younger plants generally produce simpler arrow-shaped leaves, while more mature climbing growth may develop differently shaped foliage.

This variety is a lovely option for anyone wanting a colourful tropical plant that can adapt to different indoor styling arrangements as it grows.
