Product Description

A little silver, a little green and a whole lot of attitude! The Silver Princess Snake Plant is a striking addition to any indoor plant collection, with its tall, sword-shaped leaves and beautiful silvery-green colouring. Each leaf features a unique combination of soft silver tones, deeper green markings and subtle horizontal banding, giving this beauty plenty of character.

Known for its architectural shape and wonderfully forgiving nature, the Silver Princess is perfect for anyone who loves a statement plant without the high-maintenance routine. Its upright foliage adds height and structure to shelves, desks and side tables, while its distinctive colouring brings something a little different to the classic Snake Plant look.

This 100mm Silver Princess is already showing off a lovely mix of lighter and darker foliage, with fresh new growth emerging from the base. Tough, stylish and happy to be left alone between waterings, it's an excellent choice for beginners, busy plant parents and anyone who occasionally forgets about their watering can.

Why You'll Love It

• Beautiful silvery-green foliage with contrasting dark green markings.
• Tall, sword-shaped leaves that create a striking architectural display.
• Exceptionally drought-tolerant and wonderfully low maintenance.
• Adaptable to a range of indoor lighting conditions.
• Produces new shoots from the base, gradually developing into a fuller plant.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Sansevieria trifasciata (syn. Dracaena trifasciata)
• Common Name: Silver Princess Snake Plant
• Pot Size: 100mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Evergreen succulent houseplant

Light

Silver Princess Snake Plants are incredibly adaptable and can tolerate everything from lower indirect light to bright, filtered sunlight.

For the best growth and most attractive foliage colouring, position your plant somewhere with plenty of bright, indirect light. Gentle morning sunlight can also be beneficial, particularly when the plant has been gradually acclimatised.

Although Snake Plants are often promoted as low-light plants, they don't necessarily thrive in very dark spaces. Growth will slow considerably in reduced light, and the foliage may lose some of its distinctive silvery appearance.

Avoid suddenly exposing your plant to intense afternoon sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves, particularly if it has been grown indoors.

Watering

If there's one thing the Silver Princess appreciates, it's a little breathing room between drinks!

Allow the potting mix to dry out completely, or almost completely, before watering again. Once dry, water thoroughly and allow any excess moisture to drain freely from the nursery pot.

During spring and summer, watering may be required every two to four weeks, depending on temperature, light levels and the type of potting mix used.

In the cooler months, watering requirements can reduce significantly, particularly in low-light positions. Always check the soil rather than following a strict watering schedule.

Snake Plants store moisture in their thick, fleshy leaves and underground rhizomes, making them highly drought-tolerant. Overwatering is their biggest enemy and can quickly lead to soft leaves, yellowing and root rot.

Feeding

Feed your Silver Princess year-round with a balanced liquid fertiliser at a diluted strength to support healthy foliage and new growth.

During spring and summer, fertilise approximately every four to six weeks while the plant is actively growing.

In autumn and winter, reduce feeding to approximately every eight to ten weeks, or less frequently if growth has slowed considerably.

Snake Plants are naturally light feeders, so avoid excessive fertilising. A gentle, consistent approach is more than enough to keep them looking their best.

Growing

Silver Princess is an upright-growing Snake Plant with firm, sword-shaped leaves that emerge directly from underground rhizomes.

As the plant matures, it gradually produces additional shoots from the base, forming an increasingly full and sculptural clump. Its naturally slow to moderate growth makes it ideal for smaller spaces and decorative indoor displays.

It prefers warm conditions, ideally between approximately 18–30°C, although it can tolerate typical household temperatures without difficulty. Protect it from frost, prolonged cold conditions and cold, wet potting mix.

When repotting, choose a very well-draining mix with plenty of mineral aeration. Our Indoor Arid Mix is a particularly suitable choice, providing the drainage and airflow these succulent plants appreciate.

Snake Plants generally prefer being slightly snug in their pots, so only increase the pot size when the roots or rhizomes begin to outgrow their container.

There's no need for regular pruning. Simply remove any damaged or declining leaves at the base using clean, sharp tools.

Pet Friendly?

Unfortunately, no. Silver Princess Snake Plants are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.

They contain naturally occurring saponins that can cause gastrointestinal irritation, including drooling, vomiting and diarrhoea.

If you share your home with curious pets who enjoy nibbling on plants, position your Silver Princess somewhere safely out of reach.

Good to Know

The Silver Princess is valued for its beautiful silvery-green foliage, although the intensity of its colouring and markings can vary between individual plants and even between leaves on the same plant.

Younger leaves may appear brighter green before developing more of their characteristic silver tones as they mature.

Unlike many tropical houseplants, Snake Plants don't require high humidity and are generally very comfortable in normal household conditions.

Their underground rhizomes store water and nutrients, helping them tolerate periods of dryness. This also means they're particularly sensitive to overwatering, especially during Melbourne's cooler months.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.
• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.
• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
