Product Description

A little shimmer, a lot of leafy goodness! Meet the Satin Pothos, a gorgeous trailing tropical plant with velvety, heart-shaped leaves decorated in beautiful splashes of silvery-grey. Its rich green foliage and metallic-looking markings create a stunning contrast, giving this leafy favourite a little extra sparkle without being over the top.

Despite its common name, Satin Pothos isn't actually a true Pothos. It's a Scindapsus, a close relative with its own distinctive charm. Its soft, satin-like foliage catches the light beautifully, while its naturally trailing vines make it a wonderful choice for hanging baskets, shelves and anywhere you fancy a little cascading greenery.

And there's plenty more to love than just its good looks! Satin Pothos is relatively easy to care for, adaptable to a range of indoor conditions and happy to grow at its own pace. Whether you're building your indoor jungle or looking for something a little different, this silver-splashed beauty is an absolute winner.

Why You'll Love It
  • Beautiful heart-shaped leaves with distinctive silvery-grey markings
  • Soft, velvety foliage with a subtle metallic shimmer
  • Gorgeous trailing vines that look lovely in hanging baskets and on shelves
  • An adaptable indoor plant that's relatively easy to care for
  • Can be grown as a trailing plant or encouraged to climb a support

The Details

• Botanical Name: Scindapsus pictus
• Common Name: Satin Pothos, Satin Silver Pothos
• Pot Size: 200mm Hanging Basket
• Plant Type: Tropical Evergreen Climbing and Trailing Aroid

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful silver markings and encourage healthy, steady growth. A position near a bright window with filtered sunlight is ideal, giving the foliage plenty of light without exposing it to harsh direct rays.

Satin Pothos can tolerate moderate light, although growth may slow and its distinctive silver markings may become less pronounced. Avoid strong afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the delicate foliage.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of potting mix to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly until excess moisture drains from the bottom of the hanging basket, then allow the plant to drain completely.

Satin Pothos prefers its roots to have a little breathing room between drinks and generally copes better with slight dryness than constantly soggy soil. Its leaves may begin to curl inwards when thirsty, although prolonged dryness can lead to crispy edges and leaf damage.

During cooler periods or when growth slows, reduce watering frequency as the potting mix will naturally take longer to dry.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage, vibrant silver markings and steady growth. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid excessive feeding, as fertiliser salts can accumulate in the potting mix and potentially damage the roots or cause browning leaf tips.

Growing

A naturally climbing tropical plant, Satin Pothos produces long, flexible vines that can be left to cascade from a hanging basket or trained to climb a moss pole or other suitable support.

Prefers a loose, well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture while allowing plenty of airflow around the roots. A quality indoor mix containing ingredients such as orchid bark, perlite and coco coir works beautifully.

Enjoys warm temperatures and moderate to higher humidity, although it generally adapts well to typical indoor conditions. Keep away from cold draughts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

For a fuller, bushier appearance, occasionally prune longer vines just above a leaf node. Healthy stem cuttings containing at least one node can be propagated in water or a suitable propagation mix and planted back into the basket once rooted.

Pet Friendly?

No. Scindapsus pictus contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed or ingested. Keep its beautiful trailing vines safely out of reach of curious pets and little hands.

Good to Know

The distinctive silver markings on Satin Pothos are a natural feature of its foliage, creating a beautiful shimmering effect as light reflects from the leaf surface. Each leaf develops its own unique pattern, with some showing generous splashes of silver and others displaying more subtle markings.

New leaves may emerge slightly curled or rolled before gradually unfurling and developing their characteristic heart shape. Providing consistent moisture, warmth and suitable humidity helps encourage healthy new growth.

Although it's commonly grown as a trailing plant, Satin Pothos is a natural climber. When given a suitable support and the right growing conditions, its leaves can become noticeably larger as the plant matures.

It's also worth remembering that Satin Pothos is not a true Pothos (Epipremnum), despite the common name. It belongs to the Scindapsus genus and tends to grow a little more slowly than many of its Pothos cousins, but those beautiful silver-splashed leaves are well worth the wait!

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
