Product Description

Big leaves, beautiful silver markings and a whole lot of tropical charm! Meet the Exotica Satin Pothos, a seriously stunning trailing plant that takes everything we love about the classic Satin Pothos and turns it up a notch. With its generously sized, heart-shaped leaves and gorgeous splashes of shimmering silver, this leafy beauty certainly knows how to stand out.

Its thick, velvety foliage features a beautiful combination of deep green and soft, silvery-grey markings, creating an almost metallic appearance that catches the light beautifully. Compared to other Satin Pothos varieties, 'Exotica' is known for its broader leaves and more extensive silver patterning, making it an especially eye-catching addition to any indoor plant collection.

Naturally a climber, Exotica looks equally gorgeous trailing from a hanging basket, where its vines can gradually spill over the edges to create a lush, cascading display. And while it might look a little fancy, it's surprisingly approachable when it comes to care. Give it some lovely indirect light, a well-draining potting mix and a little patience, and it'll reward you with plenty of beautiful foliage.

Why You'll Love It
  • Large, heart-shaped leaves with stunning silvery-grey markings
  • Beautiful velvety foliage with a subtle metallic shimmer
  • More extensive silver patterning than many other Satin Pothos varieties
  • Gorgeous trailing growth that's perfect for hanging baskets and shelves
  • Can be trained to climb for larger, more mature foliage

The Details

• Botanical Name: Scindapsus pictus 'Exotica'
• Common Name: Exotica Satin Pothos, Silver Satin Pothos
• Pot Size: 200mm Hanging Basket
• Plant Type: Tropical Evergreen Climbing and Trailing Aroid

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful silver markings and encourage healthy, steady growth. A position near a bright window with filtered sunlight is ideal, allowing the foliage to receive plenty of light without being exposed to harsh direct rays.

Can tolerate moderate light, although growth may slow and the silver patterning may become less pronounced. Avoid strong afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause discolouration.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of potting mix to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly until excess moisture drains freely from the bottom of the hanging basket, then allow it to drain completely.

Exotica prefers a little drying time between drinks rather than constantly wet roots. Its thick leaves provide some tolerance for short periods of dryness, although prolonged underwatering can cause curling, crispy edges and leaf damage.

During cooler periods or when growth naturally slows, reduce watering frequency as the potting mix will generally take longer to dry.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage and steady growth. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid excessive fertilising, as a build-up of fertiliser salts can damage the roots and contribute to browning leaf tips.

Growing

A naturally climbing tropical plant, Exotica produces flexible vines that can be left to trail beautifully from a hanging basket or encouraged to climb a moss pole or other suitable support.

Prefers a loose, well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture while allowing plenty of airflow around the roots. A quality indoor mix containing orchid bark, perlite and coco coir works particularly well.

Enjoys warm temperatures and moderate to higher humidity, although it can adapt to typical indoor conditions. Keep away from cold draughts, sudden temperature changes and direct exposure to heating or cooling vents.

Exotica is generally a more measured grower than some other trailing aroids, particularly in lower light. To encourage a fuller appearance, trim longer vines just above a leaf node and propagate healthy stem cuttings in water or a suitable propagation mix before planting them back into the basket.

Pet Friendly?

No. Scindapsus pictus 'Exotica' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed or ingested. Keep its trailing vines safely out of reach of curious pets and little hands.

Good to Know

Exotica is a cultivated variety of Scindapsus pictus, recognised for its particularly large, broad leaves and generous silver markings. Compared to many other Satin Pothos varieties, its foliage tends to have a more substantial appearance, with beautiful silvery patches spreading across much of the leaf surface.

Each leaf develops its own unique pattern, meaning some may be almost completely silver while others display a stronger contrast between deep green and silvery-grey. This natural variation is part of what makes Exotica so special.

New leaves often emerge tightly rolled before gradually unfurling and developing their characteristic heart shape. Consistent watering, warmth and suitable humidity will help encourage healthy new growth and prevent leaves from becoming stuck as they open.

Although commonly sold as a hanging plant, Exotica is actually a natural climber. Given a suitable support and the right conditions, it can develop increasingly large foliage as it matures.

And despite the name, Satin Pothos isn't a true Pothos! It belongs to the Scindapsus genus rather than Epipremnum, making it a close relative with its own distinctive growing habits and beautiful foliage.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
