Product Description

A little string of something special! The Variegated String of Pearls takes an already adorable succulent and gives it a colourful twist. Its rounded, bead-like leaves feature a beautiful mix of green, creamy white and soft yellow, creating a delicate, almost jewellery-like appearance that's impossible not to admire.

Botanically known as Senecio rowleyanus, this charming trailing succulent produces slender stems adorned with plump, pearl-shaped leaves. As it grows, those strands gradually cascade over the edges of its pot, creating a gorgeous waterfall of colourful little pearls.

Perfect for hanging planters, elevated shelves or anywhere its trailing foliage can take centre stage, the Variegated String of Pearls is a wonderful choice for succulent lovers looking for something a little different. With plenty of light and a careful approach to watering, this eye-catching beauty makes a lovely addition to any plant collection.

Why You'll Love It

• Adorable pearl-shaped leaves with beautiful green, cream and yellow variegation.

• Delicate trailing stems create a stunning cascading display.

• Perfect for hanging planters, shelves and elevated plant stands.

• Drought-tolerant succulent that prefers to dry between waterings.

• A unique and highly decorative addition to any succulent collection.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Senecio rowleyanus
• Common Name: Variegated String of Pearls
• Pot Size: 100mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Trailing succulent

Light

Variegated String of Pearls thrives in bright light with some gentle direct morning sunshine. A well-lit position helps support healthy, compact growth and maintain its attractive appearance.

Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh afternoon sunlight, particularly through hot windows, as the foliage can scorch. Insufficient light may result in stretched, sparse growth.

Watering

Allow the growing medium to dry thoroughly between waterings. Like other succulents, String of Pearls stores moisture in its plump leaves, making it more tolerant of dry conditions than constantly damp soil.

Water thoroughly when the mix has dried, allowing any excess to drain away completely. Reduce watering during cooler periods when growth slows. Softening or slightly shrivelling pearls can indicate that the plant needs water, although the moisture level of the growing medium should always be checked first.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser suitable for succulents, adjusting the frequency according to the plant's growth rate.

Feed lightly during active growth and less frequently during cooler periods. Avoid excessive fertiliser applications.

Growing

Variegated String of Pearls has a naturally trailing growth habit, with slender stems that gradually extend beyond the edges of its container.

Plant in a free-draining succulent mix containing mineral ingredients such as pumice or perlite to provide good aeration around the roots. Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture from accumulating.

It prefers mild to warm conditions and should be protected from frost and prolonged exposure to cold, wet weather.

Pet Friendly?

No. Variegated String of Pearls is considered toxic to cats and dogs if ingested and may cause gastrointestinal irritation.

Its small, bead-like leaves can be particularly tempting to curious pets, so position it somewhere safely out of reach.

Good to Know

Variegated String of Pearls is particularly loved for its unusual colouring, with individual pearls displaying different combinations of green and creamy white.

The amount and distribution of variegation naturally differ between plants, giving each one its own distinctive appearance.

Its trailing stems are relatively delicate, so handle the plant carefully when moving, repotting or arranging its foliage.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
