Product Description

Those veins, though! Meet the Magnificum Angel Wings, a seriously beautiful tropical plant that knows how to make a statement. With its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves, rich green colouring and striking creamy-white veins, this leafy beauty looks almost as though someone has carefully painted every single leaf by hand.

Also known as Xanthosoma lindenii 'Magnificum', this eye-catching aroid produces gorgeous foliage with a slightly velvety appearance and beautifully defined veining. The contrast between the deep green leaves and their pale, almost luminous markings gives it a wonderfully dramatic look without needing flowers or flashy colours to steal the show.

And while it might look like something reserved for serious plant collectors, Magnificum Angel Wings can be a rewarding addition to any indoor jungle with the right care. Give it warmth, humidity, lovely indirect light and a little consistency, and it'll reward you with spectacular new leaves that are just as exciting as the last.

The Details

• Botanical Name: Xanthosoma lindenii 'Magnificum'
• Common Name: Magnificum Angel Wings, Angel Wings
• Pot Size: 125mm Nursery Pot
• Plant Type: Tropical Evergreen Aroid

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful leaf colouring and encourage healthy growth. A position near a bright window with filtered sunlight is ideal, providing plenty of light without exposing the delicate foliage to harsh direct rays.

Can tolerate moderate light, although growth may slow and the plant may produce smaller leaves. Avoid strong afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the foliage and cause discolouration or crispy edges.

Watering

Prefers its potting mix to remain lightly and consistently moist without becoming waterlogged. Allow the top centimetre or two to begin drying before watering thoroughly, ensuring excess water can drain freely from the nursery pot.

Magnificum Angel Wings doesn't appreciate being left completely dry for extended periods, as this can cause drooping foliage and crispy leaf edges. However, constantly saturated soil can quickly lead to root problems, so finding a comfortable balance is important.

During cooler periods or when growth slows, adjust watering frequency to suit the conditions rather than following a fixed schedule.

Feeding

Feed year-round with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage and steady growth. Adjust the frequency according to its growth rate, feeding less often during cooler periods when growth naturally slows.

Avoid excessive fertilising, as a build-up of salts in the potting mix can damage the roots and contribute to browning leaf edges.

Growing

A tropical, upright-growing aroid that produces beautiful foliage from a central growing point. As the plant matures, its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves can become larger and more impressive, particularly when provided with consistent growing conditions.

Prefers a loose, moisture-retentive but well-draining potting mix that provides plenty of airflow around the roots. A quality tropical or aroid mix containing ingredients such as coco coir, fine orchid bark and perlite works beautifully.

Enjoys warm temperatures and higher humidity, making it particularly well suited to bright bathrooms, warm indoor spaces or controlled greenhouse environments. Protect from cold draughts, sudden temperature changes and direct exposure to heating or cooling vents.

Consistent conditions are particularly important for this plant. Sudden changes in watering, humidity or temperature can cause leaf damage or slow new growth, so try to keep its environment as stable as possible.

Pet Friendly?

No. Xanthosoma lindenii 'Magnificum' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed or ingested. Keep safely out of reach of curious pets and little hands.

Good to Know

Those stunning white veins aren't just decorative markings. They're a natural characteristic of Xanthosoma lindenii, creating a striking contrast against the rich green foliage and giving the plant its unmistakable appearance.

New leaves often emerge tightly rolled before gradually unfurling and expanding into their beautiful arrow-shaped form. During this process, maintaining suitable humidity and consistent moisture can help prevent delicate new growth from becoming damaged.

As Magnificum Angel Wings matures, older leaves may occasionally yellow and decline as the plant directs energy into producing fresh foliage. This is a normal part of its growth cycle, provided the plant continues to produce healthy new leaves.

Although sometimes confused with Alocasia and Caladium varieties because of its dramatic foliage, Magnificum Angel Wings belongs to the Xanthosoma genus. It's a beautiful choice for anyone who loves bold leaf shapes, intricate veining and plants with a little extra personality.

• We photograph as many of our plants as possible; however, some listings may occasionally use supplier images.

• As plants are living things, every plant is unique and natural variations in size, colour and fullness should be expected.

• The plant you receive may not be the exact one pictured, but we'll always hand-pick a beautiful, healthy plant we'd happily display in our own home.
